Tetra
2001
semi-sweet white
Color: Light gold with a hint of blush
Body: Medium bodied
Flavors: Rich ripe stone fruits with
an herbal hint around the mid section. Very light in
acidity, making it a good pair for sweeter desserts. Does not have a heavy
finish or noticeable tannins. The bouquet of Tetra opens as it breathes.
Sommelier’s Notes:
“Can smell the sweetness in the nose, predominantly stone fruits…apricots.
Not overly sweet or syrupy, but has a heavier body than the Tsinandali. Medium bodied. Has a
mouth feel and flavors to match the nose including an herbal flavor on the
mid-side palate that freshens the heavier, ripe fruit flavors.
Wonderful to sip on its own or to have as a dessert wine with a fruit
based tart or a light cheese course.”
Recommendations:
Great wine for a dessert course or as the dessert itself.
Unique in that it has the flavors most identified with dessert wine, but
is not as heavy or mouth coating. Tetra is a very
flexible wine for food pairing; it can match up with lighter desserts (i.e.
berries and cream) without overwhelming them. Georgian white wines are best
served at cellar temperatures, 58ºF. Low alcohol
content (10.5%) makes Tetra a wine to enjoy for the evening.
Tetra will appeal to domestic Riesling drinkers, who will note that the Tetra
has flavors that are more dense and singularly clear.
This is also a be a great step forward for
white zinfandel buyers wanting to branch out, but are not ready for heavier
whites (chardonnay) or reds.
