Saperavi
2002
Dry red
Color: Deep garnet with purple undertone
Body: Medium with density from extract
Flavors: A rich and fruity dry red wine with berry and cherry
tones providing a hint of ripe sweetness to balance flavors of incense, wood and
herbs.
Sommolier’s Notes:
“Has the nose of a traditional oaked red. Dense
garnet color, consistent all the way through the glass.
Nose has hints of cedar, incense and a slight hint of earthiness. Has an amazing palate…starts with bright, acidic,
fresh fruit flavor on the front palate, moves to dry, tannic and herbal in the
midpalate and then marries the two for the finish.
The fruit most represented is fresh cherry fruit with wooded, herbal hints”
Recommendations:
Saperavi is similar to a
Bordeaux in its scents and flavors.
Saperavi is more in the new world style with a bright fruity nose and a
woodsy component, and is ideal for the Rioja,
California cabernet, or merlot drinker.
In this Georgian wine you will find many components here that rival
qualities of a much more expensive wine. The wine is
medium bodied without being overbearing or heavy handed.
It has good fruit, acidity, and herbal textures and flavors making it a
great food wine for a diverse group of food. Pairs
well with heavily prepared meats such as pork and lamb dishes, especially those
with an herbed rub.
